maybe ask…
Here's a nerdy probably common question - for those of you who go to the city regularly and do overnights, have you found any good regular hotels especially in Manhattan? Before pandemic, we had a regular place for consistency on LES, good rate, could leave a bag, provided some consistency. Went out of biz. Now i'm going regularly and back to chaos of trying places and points and it's misery. Trying various neighborhoods, have tried to stick with Marriott brands but don't feel it's sustainable or enjoyable.
I use Kindred whenever I'm visiting the city
Thankful for this thread as I’m also crashing all over the place and it feels so chaotic
The New Yorker on 34th is one of my go tos.
Pod Hotel has really good rates; very small, but has everything one could need for a quick stay and multiple locations.
Thanks
Are you regularly swapping your place with others to get credits? I've been curious about Kindred but still learning how it works.
I racked up a bunch of credits right in the beginning by inviting people I've hosted someone once for a few nights In total I've spent 12+ nights in Kindred homes, in Mexico City and Brooklyn Both hosting and traveling have been great experiences so far!
thank you for the ideas. i booked a trial at the New Yorker hotel and a trial at the Pod hotel to see they both feel vs the Marriott/BonVoy ones i've been doing. Not up for swapping via Kindred but cool to know about.
Perhaps we all go in on an apartment together?
I just deployed an update to ConnectHV.com to showcase the Slack community and in-person events right on the homepage. As a bonus, I swapped out the background video for the one that'll play on the screen at future IRL events!
I've renamed the #hv-founder-asks-needs channel to simply , so if you have any asks or needs (duh), post them there!
It's gonna be another hot one, so hang out in front of your fan and congratulate yourself on how cool you are for being part of this Slack! And listen to our full interview with Connect HV's fearless leader at https://www.valleygirlspodcast.com/episodes/creative-serendipity-connect-hv-is-the-network-of-networks-for-the-hudson-valley
Hi all! Wanted to introduce myself. I was born and raised in the Hudson Valley and am currently a Kingstonian. I work in the podcast industry ( true crime all the time) as a marketing and social media manager but also work with talent to strategize content, brainstorm interview topics and guests, and I often connect with large audio platforms for partnership opportunities. I studied Journalism in college and have always been a passionate writer. Excited to continue networking in the HV!
Cool job! Would love to know any new true crime podcasts you recommend?
Thanks! New true crime podcast recs would be Up and Vanished, Status: Untraced, Ice Cold Case, Serialously, and Culpable.
Hi all, this is Phil from Delco Mac, the Mac/Apple repair and consulting business. Does anyone know of a Mac-centric or similar meetup in the area?
hey I know all of them, let's talk!
Hey there, my name is Brian Greene. My wife invited me to this group. We moved from NYC to Ossining a couple of years ago. I am a writer/producer for TV and digital video, and have worked on everything from talk shows to late-night to game shows to award shows to live events to news to podcasts. I'm looking forward to being a part of this and getting to know you all!
Hey, welcome Brian, happy to have you here!
Welcome ! Rolling in a similar world as you. Happy to have you here.
Hey everyone! Over the weekend, I designed and built a manifesto (the artistic kind, not the creepy kind) for ConnectHV — basically a vision statement and list of principles for supporting and growing our local creative community.
This is one of my favorite things I've ever designed, and I'd appreciate your thoughts and feedback. (Also, very happy with all the video on the page... I tried to go for the early-2010s art-directed single-page site vibe).
Check it out!
It's awesome and well-written too. You know i love the "terroir" point so happy you led with it. I also love the goal of broadening the definition of creativity since you've talked about that and it's well served here + needed.
I thought of you while writing that! I was going to reach out and share this, I'm glad you saw it already
Looks great! (I do see a tagline duplicated in #4 and #6 - “We’re not the Next Silicon Valley…“)
Gorgeous!
lol "not the creepy kind"
yeah, this looks fantastic. your design skills are top notch man. you sure you're a developer by trade?
Thanks, I'm flattered! , if we want to get technical-technical, my job title at work is product designer... but I prefer to act as a hybrid and do a bit of both
Ah, ok, that makes so much more sense. Welp, you do both well sir
Hi all, happy to see this community exists, thought I’d introduce myself!
I’m a freelance video and photo producer / strategist with 10 years’ experience in production and editing. I currently specialize in content production for nonprofits and ethical businesses and teach a little on the side. I realize this is a more tech-centered community, so I would love to collaborate with anyone involved in green energy / tech in the region, but I work with a wide range of clients and would welcome collaborations of any sort. I’m based in Kingston if anyone would like to connect directly; I generally have a hard time making it out to the networking events.
More at moonbowimaging.com if you’re interested. Cheers!
Welcome Jeff. Working in a similar space as you and also based in Kingston!

Folks, we just hit 500 people in here!
Sharing this here. I'm a board member at O+ Festival and yesterday they announced the first 10+ artists for their 2024 event, October 11-13th in Kingston.
O+ is an organization that provides complimentary healthcare/wellness in exchange for art/music. The festival in October is their biggest fundraiser of the year. They went from providing care 3 days a year to 365 days per year in 2024. And this year's event is the start of raising money to buy the organization a building so we can expand those services.
You can make a donation for a wristband that gets you into everything during O+ weekend here: https://opositivefestival.org/wristbands/

This is such a great group. Thanks for reaching out on Threads!
Hello! I’m Sean, and I'm a graphic designer with three decades of experience, first in print design and then in web design and development (particularly with WordPress). I’ve been self-employed since 1989. In my downtime, I run a popular hiking website, mountain-hiking.com, which is a comprehensive resource for hiking trails and tips mostly in The Catskills; if you love hiking, I probably love you. Lived in NYC for a few years, then moved to Accord, then to Kingston, and I’m currently based in Cairo. Sociable introvert. Sometimes baker. Excellent dad. Looking forward to connecting with this community.
!
Great Scott!
You moved? Kingston isn’t Kingston without Sean.
Definitely too kind. But, yes, moved to Cairo June 1. I’ll be here for the next year, maybe longer if I can make in-roads with the bears and coyotes.
Hey Sean, great to see you in here!
Behold the power of Threads
excited to check out your hiking website! I mostly hike near Windham and Tannersville and always looking for new spots.
Hi / So many fantastic trails around here! I know the mountains well so I’m poking around slowly to find the hidden gems. Cairo Nature Preserve is a very short loop around the old town reservoir, but super lovely—and there are other piney trails there too, perfect for trail running, or just a chill walk after too long in front of screens.
hey the online directory onboarding process is a little glitchy. not sure if there is a remedy but you have to add your tags and uploads several times and in different ways to get them to stick. i managed the profile pic but only from the desktop, same thing with tags. Gave up on the header image after many tries. just wanted to alert. It could be me but im usually a good navigator of this stuff. Anyway thanks for doing all this!
Thanks for letting me know, that's really valuable info! I'll check the server logs and see what bug is cropping up
I had a similar experience
Looks like there's a definite bug there. I'll get that fixed and report back!
Hey and , I just pushed a provisional fix! I know you're both past onboarding, but wanted to let you know that your feedback helped me identify a pretty insidious issue in some very old code. Thank you so much!
boom amazing thank you. Appreciate the response and I'm sure this will will a lot of people - myself included as I continue to edit and update the profile. Seeing big things here - thanks again for putting your energy into this
Nice, that was quick! Thanks
Hey all, Riley McGhee here in Poughkeepsie and my wife and I are both entrepreneurs. Hi everyone , recommended me to join Connect HV and happy I did. I'm Daniela and I currently work as the Design Director of ARTnews and Art in America across print and digital platforms. I was hired to rebrand and redesign both titles (branding is truly one of the design aspects I love the most). Originally from Romania, I lived in Queens, NY for over 25 years before deciding to move to Beacon, where I currently reside since 2020. I work hybrid and commute to the city a few times a week. Eventually, I would love to find a remote opportunity.
I personally love a good profile grid! Drop your instagram links in thread!
Hi everyone! Thanks to for creating this great community and to for recommending that I join.
I'm a lawyer with a solo practice in Kingston, NY. My clients are mostly science and tech startup founders in both the HV and NYC, who I advise on launching companies, fundraising, and contract negotiations. After 20 years in corporate America, it's great to be back to representing entrepreneurs.
I'm also an advisor to Kingston's Midtown Business Alliance, another dynamic community of local business people. In my free time I enjoy eating local food, working out, and then eating more local food Looking forward to meeting many of you in person!
Yayy, glad you’re here!
Hey would love to connect.
I have a friend looking for a lawyer to consult on a new e-commerce venture she’s launching. She needs help going over all of the considerations she needs to factor into setting it up. Is that something you’d be interested in?
Hi all!
I've lived in the midtown area of Kingston for 3.5 years now with my partner , who's also a copywriter and scriptwriter and also from Brooklyn. We're fairly non-decisive most of the time (analysis paralysis to a comic degree), but as soon as we started coming up here it became very easy to stay.
I've done a tiny bit of volunteering for the local BOCES high school, giving a presentation on marketing and also helping students direct a short film for a technical competition (they won 3rd place!). That really made me want to do more in the community (the helping the kids, not the winning), and I can already tell this is a promising place for that.
I've got experience writing and creating all kinds of content for places like the Onion, Warner Brothers, Scribd, and Blavity, but mostly I've partnered with smaller businesses with fairly limited resources. I love to be creative and use comedy and storytelling when I can, but only if it aligns with a brand and their goals, audience, etc.
Really psyched to be here, and hopefully develop some deeper roots here in the HV!
And please pardon any typos, etc. I tried not to, but I've been thinking about the slimcilian at Sorry Charlie this whole time I was typing.
Hey Matthew! I’m Joe. A cinematographer, photographer and musician down in Beacon. Would love to connect if you have e any scripts you’re working on. I love working on short films whenever I can. Also just generally looking for friends in the area and I love Kingston. Curious about this slimcilian now.
I'm Andy Reed. I moved to Tivoli in 2021 with my spouse and now 4 yo daughter. Originally from San Francisco, but have been coming here for the last 20 years to see family during the summers.
I work as a venture investor for NY Ventures, a state-run venture fund, where I am focused on Series A investments. I work out of the Albany office and travel all over the state to meet founders.
Outside of work I coach U5 soccer, sit on the local library board, and from time to time make it out for a slow bike ride with Utility Bike Works in Kingston or just down a wooded road on my side of the river. I am always looking for a body of water to jump into no matter the season and have been known to travel with an espresso machine if I'm entering a known coffee desert.
Great to see you here, Andy!!
Hey I'm from here but lived in SF and Oak for many years! Welcome!
Welcome! I run a little meetup group that attempts to help local founders. I'll send you a DM and will watch for you on those bike rides!
Hello everyone, my name is Alessandro Ronfini, I am an architect and founder of www.demoarch.com. My wife and I bought a property and built a home in Olivebridge a few years back and finally moved here full time with our daughter at the beginning of the year. I love to build things, play guitar, and bike. I would like to learn golf and re-learn tennis, but it's too hot! Looking forward to meeting many of you, cheers!
Hey Alessandro! My husband and I met in architecture school. I moved on to product but he's licensed and consulting on a cities team with Buro Happold.
Would love to connect and talk design sometime! We also have a 4yr old and 2 yr old. Playdate? We're based in Kingston.
Sounds great, I'll dm you!
Truly stunning work, Alessandro. If you need a one-off crappy tennis partner in Kingston sometime, let me know!
Thank you Matthew, we try our best! And sounds good about tennis, as soon as the weather gets a bit less intense we should try to play!
I agree with Matthew !
Hey all! I’m Lily Piyathaisere and am a Senior Art Director of Events and Experiences at Okta (shout out to who is a fellow colleague although we’ve never met in person…yet) I’ve been in Beacon for 9 years by way of Brooklyn by way of San Francisco. I’m also an artist and in a past life, created a line of fiber and ceramic jewelry called Gamma Folk. I live here with my husband and 5 year old daughter.
It’s exciting to see the HV community connect and just happy to be here. I can be found on the interwebs:
Hi! I think we both used to sell at the same store (Rebecca Peacock's shop) and I remember seeing your jewelry there -- beautiful work! Nice to see you here
Hey Lily!! Good Okta representation in here
Oh yes !!! Nice seeing you here
Hi all! I’m Kai Fierle-Hedrick, Founder, Learning and Change Strategist, and Coach at Create Knowledge — a consulting/coaching practice that operates at the intersection of learning, systems change, and anti-oppression work to help change agents lead with their strengths. I’m also a poet, although less actively writing and publishing these days (ah, parenthood).
My partner, kiddo, and I moved to Beacon in 2022, and I’ve been spending time in the Hudson Valley since my sister first moved to Kingston in the early 90s. Prior to Beacon, I lived in Denver, NYC, London, Montreal, and I grew up between Toronto, the Buffalo area, and Baltimore.
I’m grateful to for the intro to this community. And if something about what I’ve shared pings for you I hope you’ll reach out, I’d love to connect!
Hi Kai! My wife and I are also in Beacon and we do photography and video production. I took a quick look at your website and noticed a great deal of copy, but a lack in visuals to help get your message across. I’m a firm believer in the power of video for marketing, especially in this fast paced world in which people don’t always have the time or capacity to read. Would you be open to having a chat about how photos and videos can help with that? Or even just to meet some friendly faces in the area. A no pressure zoom or a coffee at big mouth sometime would be great. Let me know!
Greetings! I'm Steve and found my way here via . My wife, 3yr old son, 1yr old daughter, and 4yr old pup Hank moved up the mountain to Tannersville by way of NYC in 2020. Perhaps like many others here, covid catalyzed our move up north.
By day I'm in sales working for a proptech company remotely which can be isolating, so I'm happy I found this community and look forward to meeting and connecting with like minded folks here. Outside of work I enjoy golf, fishing, and listening to vinyl. Something about the crackle and listening to an album all the way through does it for me. Anywho, cheers to new connections
Love Camp Catskill and Ryan. Did an episode with him last season and about the park: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cidiot/id1427547655?i=1000604477222
Also a big vinyl fan! Do you have a favorite HV record shop?
Stephen! Pop over to Camp Catskill in Tannersville. My childhood friend Ryan Penny opened it up a couple of years ago after moving up from NYC to Windham with his wife (and now their two year old and pup). He’d love to meet you. He organizes hikes in the area through the shop.
Ryan is great, as is his shop! We met a couple yrs back when he was putting his vision together for the store. Small world, I'll let him know we connected here!
Gosh.. that's a tough one. I like Darkside Records down in Poughkeepsie and Spike's in Catskill.. but my favorite is stumbling into a variety store or market and thumbing through someone's collection to find vinyl.
Spikes is my favorite!
Hello everyone! I found this community through a new friend at the Woodstock dog park. My husband and I moved here in November with our big doofus golden retriever, Emmett. I'm a freelance writer/editor - I focus on travel, food, wellness, pets, and personal finance and am always on the hunt for fun and interesting projects with good people. I also have a teeny tiny business hand-lettering and illustrating custom signage for weddings! Excited to connect!
Hey business owners: if I started offering some sort of sponsorship package for ConnectHV (like, your logo on the homepage + a post on Slack + a block in the emails + a slot to say something at that month’s meetup), is that something you’d be interested in? What kind of price point would be tempting?
(Important caveats in thread)
Interested - yes. Though I have no idea on price point since I have very little to compare to.
Interested! Tiers, or a range to choose from would be helpful to be able to respond to price.
CHEERS ALL! What a cool community - My name is Tiffany Tibbot & after 12 years building incredible eCommerce Companies (Kate Spade, Maison Kitsuné, KREWE, Joanna Czech etc) I just launched my own digital marketing firm SPILLTHETEADIGITAL.COM - I've been inspired by move up from Manhattan to Dutchess County in 2022 to take my growth-hacking to local Hudson Valley businesses - LET'S CHAT!!
Shoutout to for intro'ing me to this cool space! See you at the event next week!!
Congrats on your new business Tiffany!! With your talent and drive I know it will be a huge success!! And so happy to see you here!
Hey Tiffany, welcome! I'm glad to see you here
Hey all — I’m looking to hire an illustrator that can with a project. Something fun and playful that can match the style of the logos/illustrations below. If this is something you can help with, shoot me a DM!
Trying to match this style…
those look familiar
ha, i was trying to be coy
I thought the same thing!
Hey all, I have been lurking for a while but have not introduced myself. I’m Julia, I work on AI products at Amazon Web Services and my husband Justin (who is a musician/DJ/producer) discovered the HV during the pandemic and now have a home in Wappingers Falls; we go back and forth from Brooklyn. I plan to be at the event next week so hope to meet some of you, would love to make more local connections.
Friendly accessibility reminder:
If your sector is government, healthcare, or higher education, the ITC (information technology and communications) you produce, like websites, documents/PDFs, emails, videos, and social media legally must be accessible (by meeting compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines [WCAG] 2.1 AA or higher).
It’s never too late to remove barriers for the disabled and English as a second language (ESL) communities and the best time to start creating accessible products is at project start. Equal access is the goal!
If I can’t help you with your accessibility needs, I can introduce you to my colleagues who can! DM me and or send me an email via my website to connect: www.KTdid.Design
You're speaking my language, Katie, I'm the "accessibility guy" for Okta's design system team! The past few months I've been living and breathing WCAG 2.2 haha
Do you know ? She's a big advocate for accessibility in enterprise products
Yup I'm the Senior UX + Accessibility Lead on the Travelers Design System
Jordan no one ever tested TDS so I am currently Im in spreadsheet hell doing WCAG standard applicability for all my components against all the 2.0/2.1/2.2 standards. We are in Ireland so WCAG 2.1 enforcement is COMING BIG TIME with the European Accessibility Act!
And if you are someone reading this that does business in the EU and don't know what we are talking about sounds like you probably should hit up
I got stressed out just reading that
Hi, and ! Great to meet you both! How exciting to work on suck large-scale products and make a big difference! If you ever need an extra hand, I perform audits (and provide reports that are easy to follow for all team members), am a designer, too (can review any design formats or prototypes and offer a11y annotations), and am an accessible document creator and remediator.
Hi Katie! Love seeing accessibility advocates. I’m a lead designer at NEOGOV. I’m not imbedded on the design system team but I am working with them and other teams to meet WCAG standards.
My hope is to exceed them and imbed inclusive design processes into everyone’s day to day.
Hi, ! High fives, ally! Great to hear!
Hi all! I'm Tyler, my wife and I just moved to Woodstock in November -- for a living I work on ad products at Dotdash Meredith (linkedin here) but I'm much more excited about going on a hike, or making music in my little studio at home. Also I play drums, so if anyone is aware of a band that's looking for a drummer, or if anyone wants to form a Hall & Oates / Steely Dan / Ambrosia cover band, please feel free to send me a message!!
welcome to the hood! you’ll definitely find cool people to jam with!
Welcome! I’m a bassist (mostly upright) living in Saugerties, about 5 miles from Woodstock.
There’s def a good music scene around here although it can be a little hard to find your people, at least in my experience. There’s not a “typical” club scene the way there is in larger cities
Gotcha -- great to hear from you both and nice to meet you!
and if you've got any advice, success stories, or tales of defeat I'd be interested to hear about your experience!
hey you work with my dear friend Julia Catalano!
Hi all. I was an early HV Tech Meetup fan, am glad Jordan has picked up the ball and is running with it. I'll be there next week, hope to connect and reconnect. As forwhat I'm doing lately, I'm in the process of laiunching a YouTube channel, Byte Sized Tech Tips, that covers Generative AI one small topic at a time. This is the video introduction. https://youtu.be/uBFBFUTSP1w. Like, Coment, Subscribe; you'll be my best buddy.
Gerry!! I'm so glad to see you here
Hey everyone! I'm trying an experiment and opening up sponsorships of ConnectHV, with the goal of covering the costs of building/running the community while not plastering our space with banner ads: If you're interested, you can learn more and sign up here: https://subscribepage.io/connecthv
Love this idea !
Hi everyone - I'm Lindsey and I found this community thanks to who invited me to one of the recent events in Kingston.
I live in High Falls (between Stone Ridge and New Paltz). My husband and I moved here in 2020 from Brooklyn, and prior to that, we lived in San Francisco. I work in tech across product management, design, data, partnerships, and marketing (have worked in various roles at Block, Stripe, Netflix, Intuit, Wise, etc).
I'm currently on a sabbatical and have been doing some interesting local volunteer work and getting more involved in civic initiatives. During the sabbatical, I've been working on a home renovation , as well as dancing ballet , hiking, cycling, and experiencing a lot of art and music. Passionate about wine , as well as local food and beer.
I'm available for consulting in the areas of product building and product management, business growth and scaling, global expansion, navigating policy, regulatory and compliance challenges, and team building. I have deep expertise in fintech and payments. Have worked in both software and hardware environments. I'm also open to the right full time gig. Ultimately, I love building products and teams.
Excited to get to know more folks in this community!
Hey happy to see you in here! We should hit a ballet class together
Hey Lindsey, welcome! Always happy to see other product people in here
Welcome!
Hey friend!
Awesome!
Welcome! Another product person from Brooklyn here, would love to connect!
If you haven't RSVP'd to the ConnectHV live event in Poughkeepsie next Wednesday, now's your chance! We've got 125 RSVPs so far https://www.eventbrite.com/e/connecthv-july-meetup-in-poughkeepsie-tickets-923295310127?aff=ebdsshios
Hi everyone!
Hey, welcome Alex!
Hey, all!
Hudson Valley Sustainable Fashion Week is a newly-incorporated 501(c)(3) organization in search of a financial professional with experience in the NFP world to join our advisory board.
If you’re interested in learning more, please send me a DM.
Thank you!
Hi Everyone, I found this place on Threads. Thank you for putting it together--the community up here is so much bigger than I realized.
I'm a San Franciscan originally, moved to NYC in 2010, then started spending more time in Staatsburg (just south of Rhinebeck) in 2021. I'm partnered to and together we are raising a 110lb Pyrenees/St-Bernard named Eloise.
I'm an occasional Rails programmer and entrepreneur and writer. But two years ago I took over running the blogging platform Medium.com and that's my main thing. There are actually a number of Hudson Valley focused publications on Medium: The Groundhog from Marist College, Inside+Out Hudson Valley, Hudson Valley Style.
I'm always available to talk about running businesses because I think the camaraderie is as valuable as the advice. We're generally hiring for two roles at any given time. Right now we have roles open for a community manager and for a (Go) backend engineer. I think after that will be business analysts, web front end (React) and more backend, engineering managers. Generally we are filtering for more experience and some exposure to scale.
Welcome, , glad to have you here! Lift was one of the first iOS apps I ever downloaded, and I know Medium well
(Random q: do you know Jared Erondu? I was the managing editor of the startup news publication he founded, The Industry, for a while, and we moved it from WordPress to Medium during that time.)
Oh yeah. Jared worked with me for awhile at Lift and I literally just talked to him on the phone on Friday because I was doing a reference check for someone who had worked with him at Lattice. He was an amazing prodigy when I met him and so cool to see what he's gone on to do.
Ah, no way! We worked together on The Industry and then I was the founding engineer on his project askplaybook.com (Jordan Singer took over from me when I decided to focus on Hudson Valley-specific side projects; he's the Figma AI guy now, but I think we're not supposed to talk about Figma and AI anymore )
Hah. A big part of my job is explaining to people why I don't want to talk about AI.
I Medium. Welcome to the HV!!
Hi Medium Guy!
Hi, Tony! I just connected on LinkedIn and applied for the Community Manager position. This sounds like an amazing opportunity.
I would be very interested to learn about HV volunteer opportunities. Not sure if that falls under or or feel free to DM me! Thank you!
Hey Sarah! What kind of volunteering are you interested in?
Something recurring. Something with the local community. I have computer skills but am open to any type of labor that is useful.
Tonight's the night — come to Barnfox Poughkeepsie at 7pm to hang out at our July meetup! It's totally free, as always, but feel free to BYOB.
We have our record number of RSVPs! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/connecthv-july-meetup-in-poughkeepsie-tickets-923295310127
Excited to finally be able to attend one of these! See you tonight!
Looking forward to meeting you, Pat!
Wish I could be there! Looking forward to the Kingston one.
Sad to miss this one; have a great time, all!
I had a family emergency come up, so I likely won’t be there tonight, but I hope everyone going has an amazing time! I leave our event in the very capable hands of , who might have a fun announcement or two to make
We missed you man and hope everything’s ok with the family. Let’s chat and see you soon!
Hi all, wish I could be there tonight. If anyone’s going to be at the Rosendale fair this weekend feel free to stop by my caricature booth and say hi.
Super fun meeting folks last night! I will definitely be returning for the Kingston event. Very glad to have found this group!
Hi everyone! put me onto this group and I'm really glad he did!
Name's Christian and I live in Staatsburg with my wife, 3 dogs, and 1 cat. We moved up from Queens in late 2020. I primarily make a living through editing and visual effects for movies and streaming shows. But I've also had a foot in the podcast game for 10+ years and I'm into Filemaker development as I've built some custom solutions to help we with my other work.
Glad to be here and to know this group exists!
Yeah! Staatsburg crew!
Hi Christian, welcome! is the man!
Ha! I’ll take the compliment
ConnectHV fam, thank you so much to everyone who made it out on a rainy Wednesday night to the ConnectHV Meetup at Barnfox in Poughkeepsie! This was the only bit of media I captured last night
Thanks for hosting!
Enjoyed the event. Looking forward to the next one! Where was the pizza from? It was delicious. I would love to support them in the future.
great event and conversations. looking forward to chatting with all of you at the next one!
For those you missed it last night, and I have a very exciting announcement to make that will help further ConnectHV's content, programming, and connectivity for everyone in this community throughout the region:
ANNOUNCING:
Barnfox Partners with ConnectHV to Establish New Poughkeepsie, NY Headquarters: JULY 18TH, 2024 — We are thrilled to announce that Barnfox, the upstate NY coworking company with locations throughout the Hudson Valley, is partnering with ConnectHV, the online community for Hudson Valley creatives, professionals, and entrepreneurs, as the official Headquarters of ConnectHV at our Barnfox Poughkeepsie, NY location. Read more here: https://barnfox.com/connecthv-headquarters-poughkeepsie/
One last shameless plug from me today was so kind to have me on his beloved podcast, Cidiot. We chopped it up about my moving upstate story and how Barnfox came to be. Give it a listen @ Spotify: https://shorturl.at/ngAND YouTube: https://youtu.be/exD6qjul_Xg?si=JZs-UsZiwQJKbQJF
Hi Slackmates. It was good to be among some of you at Barnfox last night. I had an opportunity to show a few interested folks an exerpt of one of my new videos. They are part of a series called #ByteSizedTechBits, brief hints on how to use GenAI. I'm publishing them on YouTube, there's a related Substack blog and Linked In articles, with more to come. Please take a few minutes to view one and interact. https://youtu.be/neRrzZgDJEM?si=HIZadTrK1qPIFRd4
Glad to hear the event went well last night. I was looking forward to it yesterday and then the accident that closed Rt. 9 near the Galleria late afternoon threw me for a loop at the end of a long day! Looking forward to August 7th in Kingston!
Hi all! Happy to find some fellow tech folks in the HV. I’m a product manager, recently joined Mutiny to lead their product team. I live in Kingston with my partner, our 1 year old and rescue pup. Looking forward to meeting you at an event soon!
Hey Kate, welcome, so glad you’re here!
Make sure you RSVP to the August 7 ConnectHV meetup at the Senate Garage in Kingston! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/connecthv-cowork-kingston-august-meetup-at-the-senate-garage-tickets-922139342597
excited to meet you!
meetup at senate garage feels like getting the band back together
Let's repeat history... you give a talk, I'll make an announcement, and then someone in the audience will confuse us and ask us each questions intended for the other
lol, it's a date
This will be our first meetup that includes a short talk — I'm going to be talking about my vision for ConnectHV, the idea of "stewardship > ownership", and possible futures for the Hudson Valley creative scene
Hey all! Super specific... Anyone know of any local marketing experts that have a focus on / experience working with businesses in the built environment? Have a fun local project that I'm needing support with!
I was an Art Director for McGraw-Hill Construction/Dodge Data and Analytics. What have you got?
I had a little stint in Art Direction but now am an architect for retail spaces/restaurants
I just created some topical groups (h/t to for the idea!) so we can have more industry-specific convos:
Ping me if you have ideas for more!
is for people that do UX and Apps? Not people that design physical products right?
I think people who design physical products should definitely be in there too! we have a lot in common around user research, solving problems and delivering value
Everyone's welcome !
I think the design category could be more specific and broken up. Product Design / UX people are in very different category than Designing Websites for Agencies or Graphic Design Agency work.
Alternatively you could do:
If I had my way, id separate physical product design from digital product design. Sure we share a lot of the same problem solving skills but I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to see ux product design postings mixed in with industrial designer postings. If im looking for a design engineer to model a piece of furniture I want to know that they can model in solid works, not code php.
Agree!
Perhaps:
I think its very important to separate out the Marketing / Agency from Product Related People. They are completely different worlds
Looks good to me, ! I’m sure furniture designers could join in on physical products too if desired
