Hey there. I'm Craig from the Kingston/Woodstock area.
I run sales for an event technology company called Intellitix, which provides access control and cashless point-of-sale systems for music festivals, comic cons, sports, and more. I've worked in and around the music technology space for the past 15 years and love solving juicy problems in the industry related to ticketing, driving better data, preserving independent venues, etc.
Additionally, I serve on the board of the O+ Festival, an organization that provides healthcare to the artist and music community in exchange for their art. We've got a fundraiser featuring Grammy-winning artist Allison Russell taking place at the historic Old Dutch Church in Kingston on May 24 (tickets available here).
I'm excited to meet more folks in the HV. I'm always geeking out on sales tech stacks, AI tools, new music, and hockey.
Hi folks, I’m Jesse Ragan (not to be confused with Carrey-Chan)! I’m a typeface designer living in Beacon, and I run XYZ Type with a business partner. I’m excited to say that after seven years in business, we’ve just brought on a full-time designer for the first time! All three of us work remotely, so I’m always glad to connect with more of the local community.
Hey Jesse, we have creative folks at Beahive in Beacon (and elsewere) and regularly do events to connect folks. Feel free to reach out and/or join the email list. https://beahivebzzz.com
Your work is incredible, and I have seen a LOT of it in the wild
I'm a huge dork about type, but also somebody who knows very little about the craft technically! Would love to link up sometime and hear about how you go about the craft.
Thanks, ! Yes, I’m on the list and have been in a few times! Appreciate how you’ve shared the space with local orgs too—I was there for the BCAN retreat
Hi all! Great to be connected with everyone! I run a small impact consultancy focused on helping organizations implement localized, regenerative, and radically kind and equitable practices! Circularly.co - Glad to be here!
I really really like the phrase "radically kind"
Hey everyone - Mike Mac from Saugerties - been doing corporate IT forever, but really an entrepreneur at heart - put a Raspberry Pi in a finely crafted boombox with amazing sound - stood up an open source personal voice assistant (think Alexa) - put a stake in the ground at smartboomboxes.com (OK, needs some work, Taylor?) - did a video on the latest function - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-GOJN0nqN8 - only 5 min (first minute is geeky - skip to 1:10 for music playing) - note pulling music from MP3 files and the internet - thoughts? (please, be honest)
thanks. Sure you can check the code for security issues
Cool project.
Always happy to check out the code from a security standpoint if you have it on github. Otherwise can give you a list of concern points based off what you’ve said
very cool project !
Hi everyone! I am Rose Rubin, Community Coordinator for Mid-Hudson SCORE. Good to connect! I mentor lots of small businesses of all types. Her mother does. Any ideas?
thanks!

Is anyone aware of any local organizations that are focused on supporting mental health for LGBTQ+ youth?
I believe the Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center in Kingston has youth programs — I’m not sure if it’s exactly what you’re looking for, but even if not, they might be able to point you in the direction of an org like that:
These are the folks who run Beacon 4 Trans Kids: https://www.instagram.com/beaconlgbtq/
Also check out your local MHAs (Mental Health Associations). I'm with the MHA of Columbia and Greene but there's an Ulster, Dutchess, Orange County one and many more.
Also the aforementioned LGBTQ center.
Transclosethv also doing cool things for our trans community and other resources.
Good afternoon everyone! Its been a pleasure reading everyone's intro so far. Hope they keep coming!

I live in Kingston (Ponckhockie) with my exuberant terrier Chula, and my side gig is native plant gardening and design consulting
Awesome! Personally I’d love to hear about some of your favorite native plants. Also I’m looking for tall grass type plants good in a wet area (some water runoff) that stays vertical in the winter for some privacy. Part sun and more clay than sand soil. Any advice is very helpful!!
Definitely try some Big Bluestem (Andropogon gerardii) they can get very tall and have beautiful fall color!

Hi everyone, I joined Connect HV today and love the community. I'm a graphic designer who took a career hiatus when I decided to stay home to raise my kids. But the "work" didn't stop. Of course, it was merely unpaid and 24/7! Before jumping back into the graphics world, I delved into opening an Etsy store where I design gemstone jewelry, clay home goods like ring dishes and air plant holders, and crystal suncatchers. As more leisure time became available, I began painting again and showing in the tri-state area. Most often up in Katonah at the Chroma Fine Art Gallery. But now I'm going full circle back to graphic design. Do you know of any connections you can point me to in either of these directions? Am open to contract, freelance, or part-time design work. Selling my products in a retail store or in markets. Showing artwork in local galleries or spaces. Yup, that might be it Also happy to meet any creative types just for fun! My website is VanessaPinedaFox.com
ok thanks for the tip!
Hey Vanessa, welcome!
Many thanks Jordan!
might be a good person to talk to, she's got an Etsy store too!
Hi y'all! Excited to connect. I’m a Social Media Manager and Visual Communicator in Hudson. In my past lives I’ve been a Visual Merchandiser and Digital Media Designer in corporate settings leading me to intense burnout so I created www.gentler.day based on the belief that Social Media is a powerful tool for storytelling—where Marketing can be used as a platform for self-expression--minus the overwhelm.
I’m looking to work with artists, creatives, and small businesses in the Better for You category focusing on Organic Social, Email & Creative Support.
Hoping to help everyone feel less stress and more confident around showing up online!
Would love to connect further! Wanna follow each other on insta? I’m eimyfig over there. PS: Thanks for this space!
you should definitely chat w/ !
I'll DM you! Thanks for the connection.
nice to meet you - would love to chat more!

Great to see all the familiar faces and meet new people in the area!

Hi all! I'm Danielle Centofanti-Davidson, and I'm an HV/Westchester native. Grew up in Tarrytown, moved to the city after attending Marist College, and moved back to Sleepy Hollow a few years ago. Since moving back, I've started my own business, Main St. Business Strategies, a marketing practice for small and medium-sized businesses in and around the Hudson Valley. I'm also the President of the Rivertowns Chamber of Commerce. I absolutely love hiking and walking along the Hudson - I spend as much time outside as possible. My husband and I are always bopping around various HV towns on weekends, trying new cafes, restaurants, bars, and activities. So thrilled to join this group! As a solopreneur, having a group to chat about work and play in our area is KEY. I'd go insane otherwise. Thanks for building ConnectHV !
Love your businesses premise, seems like we have similar missions. :-)
Hi , Yes! just followed you on IG - your work is lovely
Hey Danielle, thanks for joining, I'm glad you're here!
On today's episode of Valley Girls, we talk all about the best gluten-free eats in the Hudson Valley, with a shoutout to on the blog and the podcast! https://www.valleygirlspodcast.com/blog/gluten-free-hv
Hey, cool, thanks for the shoutout!
Hi everyone! Thank you to for introducing me to this channel. I’m Lorraine Cink, new-ish to Westchester. I work as a Director of Creative Content for Marvel digital media largely focused on video for our family brand Marvel HQ. My hubs Brian is a TV writer and Producer (I will enlist him to join to this slack too). We also have a very cute 11 month old son named Harrison who is currently unemployed. My (now rare) spare time is spent writing books about super heroes and the occasional horror comedy script, listening to romantasy audiobooks, and falling asleep watching TikTok more than I should. Hi!
Welcome! In another life I was a director of creative content for Marvel paper media. ;)
Welcome beautiful lady!
Welcome Lorraine! Nice to have you here!
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Drew!
Hey Lorraine, welcome!
Here's something I'm musing on that I'd love your thoughts about: how do you define "a creative?" Who qualifies?
That’s a really good question. Not entirely sure where to draw that line, but it feels like a creative is someone with passion but I would hope everyone has something they have passion for…passion is needed for compassion, and compassion is needed for empathy, and empathy is…needed.
I’ll have to sit with this more! An artist is a creative but a creative isn’t necessarily an artist? Is a creative a larger umbrella? If everyone is a creative, then does it lose its meaning?
“Making wild, groundbreaking, innovative art/experiences/products requires things like free time in the day to get lost in ideas, time and money to do things that inspire you, ways to feel alive in your body, safety and security to take risks, a clear understanding of the 'why' of what you're doing, trust in and from your collaborators, and a regular infusion of the unexpected.”
i find myself rankling at this quote. when you do art for a job, it can be more like being a plumber. i've seen some boiler plumbing that is awe-inspiring, and certainly qualifies as art. but the most important thing is that the water gets from here to there without leaking. there's a turning point where a professional artist needs to figure out how to plumb day in and day out, and you lose the luxury of inspiration and day dreaming. some people are galvanized by this, and they get gud. some are crushed by it, and they get out.
Hmmm. * goes to google the definition of rankling* I definitely do not see plumbing as an art. I think that analogy is reductive. But art is subjective. A phrase I like is “friction improves the work.“ a conversation worth having!
And I hope we never lose inspiration and day dreaming. The loss of this is a product of the toxicity of capitalism. It should NOT be a luxury. It is a necessity.
capitalism is a fact, so it's not worth whining about. professional means you get paid, and how you navigate that determines your success and longevity. it might not determine your joy or satisfaction, but that's on you to sort out.
I hear you. I would push back on labeling what I stated as whining. That felt a little diminishing and judgmental. As a performer who’s had to pivot multiple times to make sure I can pay my bills, I’ve had to redefine what success even means. But the get in get out mentality (giving up, falling back) is very black-and-white thinking which has caused me to feel a lot of shame around my relationship to my creative identity. But I hear your points and I’ll definitely give it a lot more thought.
I have been sufficiently rankled
i was referring to the writer of the article whining, not you . i've had a similar path of shame and artist identity, but came out of it stronger. sounds like we're bound for a great cup of coffee
Oh got it. Yes a deep dive coffee chat is my cup of….coffee
can confirm as a muralist that some days, just doing the job is 10000% blue collar work. sweaty, achy, repetitive. but it's part of what i love as a muralist — the dynamics behind a project involves wearing quite a few hats and sometimes that painting day is just what i need to clear my head after hefty creative thinking behind the design.
Personally, I think the definition is pretty broad... I generally frame it as, "if you aren't actively destroying value, you're a creative." Designers and photographers are creatives, but so are accountants and realtors.
Most of the time, it seems people define it as the more traditional arts/arts-adjacent professions... so, designers and photographers qualify, but entrepreneurs might not.
I'm trying to hammer out a succinct, catchy definition that I can use to advertise this group... "creative/tech/entrepreneurial folks" doesn't quite roll off the tongue haha
I would say it’s as broad as it sounds — anyone who creates! I don’t think it’s just tied to the art scene. I would include musicians, poets, writers, artists, designers, photographers, DJs, bakers, chefs…. Also, I don’t think it has to be a profession I think a creative can be someone who enjoys being creative as a part of their daily lives!
From the Oxford Dictionary
cre·a·tive adjective relating to or involving the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work. "change unleashes people's creative energy"
nounINFORMAL a person who is creative, typically in a professional context. "the most important people in the mix will be creatives and direct marketing specialists"
Late to the party on this, had slack closed for a few days, but I listen to this great design podcast called Design You Life by Vince Frost and he just said on a recent episode "I believe we're all creatives, until it's beaten out of us."
Neri Oxman’s cycle of creativity
A friend had a surprise birthday party at the Rosendale rec center the other day, and everyone was donating food and entertainment, so I set up a free caricature booth and got some practice in. We were all instructed to wear funny hats, but I'll take pretty much any excuse to do that.
Very cool. And nice to see my friend Lara Hope, too!
I figured someone on this slack would have to know her!
LOVE THIS!
thanks!
These are fabulous.
Thank you!
Hello Creative folks! Hope you’re enjoying this warm Friday!
I am looking to open a photo/ video studio in the Kingston area. Are there any Photographers Videographers or Stylist etc that are looking to share a space? I don’t need one full time. Please get in touch!
Outside of that, I am generally happy to connect with anyone in the area where there may be some overlap.
Thank for putting this together! Really enjoying this community.
Thanks
Thanks to for inviting me and most especially for his years of building the community. I’m actively working on building a new academy/school educating and developing youth on entrepreneurship and athletics (primarily Futbol/Soccer). I spend a lot of time with La Finca Training Institute, Pathfinder FC, National Elite FC, and other clubs. I’m completing my one-year appointment as the Visiting Lecturer of Entrepreneurship at SUNY New Paltz School of Business and Advisor to SUNY through my work with at the Hudson Valley Venture Hub. I previously served as the Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) at Iona University and have advised students at other institutions in the HV and beyond. More broadly, I am an entrepreneur, consultant, and investor working with first-stage business owners, and have experience launching new businesses in my past work with incubators and accelerators. A former D1 and semi-pro athlete, I’m a proud father of four children, and am thankful to my wife, Kimberly, for bringing me to the HV 20+ years ago where she was born and raised.
Cheers, everyone. Do not hesitate to let me know how I and my initiatives can help you make progress in your life.
I had such a good time meeting folks at the Coffee With Creatives in Wappingers this morning — thanks for setting up a great event, !
Hey all! I co-host an interview-based radio show on Radio Kingston that shines a light on people’s Good Work. If the show theme aligns with you, and you would like to be my guest, please DM me! Here is an archive of all our shows, along with a description: https://goodworkinstitute.org/radio/
Hello friends still figuring out Slack. Chris Clarino here, Wallkill native currently living in San Diego.
Hi everyone! Excited to join this community I live in Craryville (20 mins outside Hudson) and work at a cooperative-run coworking space in Philmont (purpose.work). I manage a team of content designers at a tech company and cut my teeth in the agency world busting out content marketing and creative assets. I'm also a photographer who had a stint at making it my career but prefer to wander around with my film cameras for fun. Shout out to my fellow UX-ers and content people!
Hooray for co-op coworking! (Says the co-founder of CO in Rhinebeck, although I am no longer involved over there)
No way! I don't know Michael, but Okta is large enough that you can be coworkers with someone for years and never actually cross paths. We've got a decent-sized Hudson Valley contingent, considering we're SF-based!
I will say that Okta is a great place to work* and if anyone wants a recommendation, reach out and I can get you into the pipeline. (I'm not 100% sure, but I think that it you have a recommendation, you're guaranteed a phone screen at least... your resume won't just sit on the pile).
- When we had our second kid they didn't blink when I took the full 18 weeks of full-paid parental leave. It's the rare place that actually means "unlimited PTO" when they say "unlimited PTO."
That’s awesome! So great you were able to take the time to be with your family. And thanks for offering up a referral
Hey Gabrielle, welcome! Which tech company do you work for, curiously?
Hey Jordan! Thanks I'm at Quickbase
Ah, cool! I'm a product designer at Okta on the design systems team, but we've got content design under our umbrella
Nice! Love to hear you've got content designers Also that's neat you're at Okta, someone at my coworking space is an engineer at Okta - Michael Wedd. Guess there's a lot of you Okta folks out here!
That's so funny, , I just applied to a role with Okta!
Hi from another product designer! No content designers where I work, maybe someday
Another product designer chiming in I'm over at Ellevest
Designing at NEOGOV fwiw. And man I thought I had it good with 12 weeks of offered parental leave
Hi all! anyone here in video games? I have a self-funded buddy working on an atmospheric rpg in need of a publisher and/or investors https://twitter.com/TheMilkLake
had to google spoopy
haha sorry, that's not my word but apparently it's a thing
I was going to recommend talking to , but I see he's already here!
Also, spoopy is great word. Maybe we'll do a Spoopy Hudson Valley theme month in October

Hey everyone! My wife and I do photography and video production and are looking for a social media manager for our weddings and elopements businesses. This would be a remote thing so if there’s anyone in here available or you have a good referral, we would love to hear from you. Mostly looking for someone to handle scheduling, posting and interactions. Thanks in advance!
Hi! Social Media Manager here. Would love to connect! http://www.gentler.day
We used Limitless Media for a bit for The CineHub. Sarah was great!
Hi everyone, I love the energy of this group and am thrilled to be a part of it. My name is Terry Dagrosa and I am based in Woodstock. I am the co-founder of INSIDE+OUT Upstate NY, a digital magazine and online business directory that celebrates (and promotes) the people, places, businesses and attractions of the Hudson Valley. Please follow us on Instagram @insideoutustateny https://www.instagram.com/insideoutupstateny/
Be sure to add your business to our FREE directory https://insideandoutupstateny.com/
Being in this space, people often ask us for recommendations for web developers, writers, graphic designers, social media folks and more so we do our best to keep our finger on the pulse of the HV creative community.
I look forward to collaborating/connecting!
Oh I love this article so much. It is beautiful and very moving (and I am/was a dancer/choreographer so I knew of Sarah back in the day but didn’t know she was up here!): https://insideandoutupstateny.com/love-in-the-valley/till-death-do-us-dance-sarah-and-nano/
Thank you! Yes, we found this to be such a touching story. You are fortunate to have met Sarah.
Hey Terry, I’m so glad you’re here! You have impeccable timing — no joke, earlier this morning I was thinking that I really want to get whoever started INSIDE+OUT on here. Love that resource!
Hi Terry!!
ASK for entrepreneurs to complete a 3-min survey.
As Lecturer of Entrepreneurship at SUNY New Paltz School of Business, I’m advising two students studying how entrepreneurs are prepared for career. I would very much appreciate entrepreneurs in our HV network to complete by Monday. I’ll share insights in May.
PHOTOGRAPHERS: Goodtime Studios is running a studio promo!
I couldn't make the special days at Barnfox Poughkeepsie or Hudson but i'm going to work out of Barnfox Hudson Tuesday April 30th to try it out for the first time. If anyone's there that day, lmk. will try other days too.
Random q: is anyone here a member at Allsport in Fishkill?
I am a member! Only wish is that they had towel service but otherwise pretty satisfied.
Yep! Joined beginning of the year, was just there this morning
I just joined last week — it's down the street from my kids' preschool, so I can drop them off and then get a workout in/work at the cafe!
Nice! It’s a great gym, I’m really enjoying it. You play ping pong at all?
No! If you want to win easily against someone with no skills and no coordination, I'm your guy
Cool Cool
Looking for women, bpoc, and/or queer contractors for a small custom kitchen project. Anyone have good recommendations?
Pico from shefixllc.com is great!
Hello everyone, I just moved upto woodstock, would love to connect with producers, directors, and creative directors up here. Im a director of photography and my work can be checked out at www.frankapollonio.com My focus is celebrity and beauty.
Hi everyone I'm Banu Akman, and I live in Beacon, NY. I made the leap from Turkey to Beacon seven years ago with my family, our orange tabby, and my 120-years-old sourdough starter. I'm a UX Designer with quite a diverse background in service design, web development, and even managing live events and scientific publications. I’ve recently transitioned more into digital products, blending my UX design skills with coding. Feel free to connect on LinkedIn - I'd love to chat about integrating AI tools into your processes or just meet up for a coffee chat. Thanks for inviting me to this community and for opening this space! I look forward to connecting with more creative people in the area!!
hi + welcome! I’m connecting with you on LinkedIn too — I’m also a UX/product/service design person, in Albany!
Hey Banu, welcome! I live in Poughkeepsie, but I'm writing this from Kitchen + Coffee in Beacon
I'm a hybrid UX designer/developer too, currently focused on enterprise design systems. There's a good-sized design community here, and I keep meeting more people!
PS — Have you ever watched Brooklyn 99? There's an episode where a character inherits his family's century-old sourdough starter, but someone leaves it too close to a space heater and it's ruined. Traumatic
Haha I haven't seen that episode but I can feel the pain Last week, someone suggested keeping track of who else has a part of my sourdough starter, kind of like a family tree. Now, I'm thinking about it more seriously. I would love to join you for a coffee next time you are around.
shall we have the next meeting in Beacon? We can meet at one of it's wine bars if PM or Kitchen + Coffee if AM!
I am going to miss the meeting tonight, but I will definitely join the next one. Hearing that we are already breaking Eventbrite's 100 attendee limits, we might need a larger space than Kitchen & Coffee (maybe Hudson Valley Brewery) But I am always open to a small coffee chat, as well
Hi Banu, happy to have more UX designers here. I’ll send a connection request on LinkedIn. Would love to hear how you’re using AI into your process.
Totally pumped for the meetup tonight. You can still come if you haven't RSVP'd!
7pm at Barnfox Poughkeepsie Parking at the municipal lot across the street Pizza & drinks courtesy of
If you can't make it tonight, there will be a next one
To confirm, Barnfox in Poughkeepsie is located at: 37 Academy Street Poughkeepsie, NY
Hey tribe, I am happy to introduce myself here, and feel free to connect using LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/yovchinnikova/. I am the innovator, startup-founder, spiritually connected tech entrepreneur, I am the woman in tech, the girl who code, and the challenger. As startup founder, I created OpenHub to bring people together around tech to use tech,, I create business opportunities for creators, like this one:
In my spare time I tango, hike, do yoga & pilates, play guitar, astrology-reading (Eastern!), make friends and match people based on opportunities.
Being in this space, people often ask me for recommendations for web developers, writers, graphic designers, social media folks and more so I will do my best to keep my eyes on the pulse of the HV creative community. I look forward to collaborating/connecting! Sorry to miss your first get-together, but happy to help with coordinating the next ones!
And my huge appreciation goes to who was always supporting the Hudson Valley creative community since we started together as HVTech Meetup co-orgs. We can still use this now if you'd be interested in this channel!
Hi Everyone. I hope to make it this evening; good of time as any to finally introduce myself. I’m John, renaissance man/poser. I have a lot of experience in the post-production side of things for Ads/Commercials. Editing, Animation, Design, Compositing, etc.; a post-production in-a-box kinda guy in which I operate as Mutt & Man. My wife has a Pilates studio, So Young Pilates in Pleasant Valley, and I love designing the space, identity, graphics, clothing, and furniture for her. My biggest obsession these days (now that I live upstate and have the room) is woodworking. I have a very modest shop and have begun to build furniture and other things, and since I learned everything from YouTube, I started creating content (like this about my dog disguised as a woodworking video) as a way to be the storyteller and comedian I’ve always wanted to be. A natural collision of my worlds, I suppose.
Glad to meet all you talented folks! Happy to connect with you all about anything we have and don’t have in common!
Welcome John! We have a lot in common, even the passion for woodworking. Hope to see you tonight!
The new So Young Pilates sweatshirts are so slick, my wife got one and I’m jealous
(I’m assuming you designed those haha)
Hi sorry I missed you this evening. Let’s connect.
Thanks yes that was me. Designed/found a crayon - whatever you want to call it! It was fun and aims to promote a lighter side to the brand. I love randomly catching people wearing them around town.
yes let’s!

Hi All - Thanks for the invite! I'm Kate Gardiner - avid equestrian riding up and down the Hudson. I split between NYC, Lake Geneva Wisconsin and Miami depending on the season. I'll be in Amenia this weekend if anyone is around - Manhattan Riding Club will be doing the Old Chatham hunter pace at Wethersfield. We have a couple of border collies and spend a lot of time hiking on the weekends when not riding / traveling. My husband Michael is a cardiac anesthesiologist who does locums - while we are also contemplating Vassar Brothers in Poughkeepsie. We are in the market for either a remarkable home upstate or about 40-60 acres 'with a view' to build our home.
Hi Kate from another Kate! I am a real estate agent — if you're not working with anyone already I'd love to help you and your husband find your home!

Hey folks, I've added two channels to the Slack:
Hello all, My name is Lisander. I am a software engineer working for IBM in Poughkeepsie. While my day job is very demanding I still find time to pursue my passion... solving problems and providing solutions! I am currently building a SaaS in the 3D Printing niche. While my friends say I'm an extrovert, I'm quite shy at first (I've been holding off introducing myself for a month). I am excited to meet you all!
I'm curious about your SaaS. What's it for?
It is "an all-in-one platform that allows 3D Printing businesses to easily quote prospective clients". Anyone with a 3D Printer can sign up and create a form. They can then share their form to accept submissions for custom 3D Printing orders. What makes it special is that it the app actually uses your slicers settings to try to give the most accurate quotes to your customers!
I'm still in the process of building it but here is the link https://3dquoter.com/ Feel free to roast it!
Hey, welcome Lisander, I'm glad you decided to introduce yourself!
What kind of software engineering do you do?
Welcome Lisander "tell me about your self" is the hardest part for most of us.
Yes, very difficult for me!
At my day job I work on the z/VM product, it's almost all assembly language. When building stuff I'm a jack of MOST trades, my current stack for front end is NextJS. The rest is "up to me" as I self host almost all my projects. One of my "crazier" projects I've made was reading the CAN bus on my car and having interior GOVEE lights sync with them.
I just aliased slack.connecthv.com to this Slack, so now if you want to invite someone you can just tell them it's slack.connecthv.com. Hopefully a little simpler for everyone!
Just shared with a friend!
Another update — I changed the hero section on ConnectHV.com to highlight the Slack:
Purple CTA looks great!
Thanks ! I cheated a bit — Slack's brand purple wasn't working, so I pulled the purple and fuschia from the ConnectHV brand palette and thought it was close enough
Random topic: tell me about the worst or most recent time u ever got on the thruway going the wrong way or missed your exit.
Follow up q: Where did the hour u lost take you?
My neighbor was all panicked when she realized she took the wrong turn and was getting on the throughway that she got in an accident. (Shes ok and is the first to laugh about it).
I was driving up from South Carolina after picking up my new doggie. It is a 12 hour drive. I can barely manage 4. I was trying to work through something stressful at work with my husband and within that time frame I missed the New Paltz exit. I had a meltdown and had to go all the way to Kingston and back down to New Paltz. I was too nervous to do an illegal turnaround. It was...not ideal
Missing the New Paltz exit is brutal, I've done that before
I'll start last week I was driving to catskill to go to the avalon and missed the exit so I got to spend an extra 37 min driving for what would have been a 38 min drive
The day after I got married, leaving the hotel. I ended up driving us south towards Woodbury Commons instead of north towards our new place in New Paltz
My WORST time was in like 2017 when I worked at moonfarmer and I was late to work and had joined stand up from my phone in the car. It was my standup as I was coming up to the thruway junction in New Paltz and instead of getting on north to Kingston, I went south to Newburgh. The end of the standup was something to the affect of "I will be there in 20 minutes.... Oh wait no I just got on the thruway the wrong way see yall in an hour bye"
oh lord, years ago while showing houses to a client, they had to wait for me at the next house for 40 minutes now if i have to take that route i mentally prepare and plan it out visually where i'm going

Awesome thx, Jordan!
If you haven't yet met here in this Slack, you're missing out! She's on today's episode of the Valley Girls podcast and it's a 2-for-1 special. First she gives us great, walkable itineraries for spending a day in the Rivertowns, and then she has some words of wisdom for solopreneurs and small business owners trying to get a handle on marketing. And shout-out to this Slack and on the episode! https://www.valleygirlspodcast.com/episodes/roaming-the-rivertowns-with-main-street-business-strategies-episode-12
Thank you so much for having me!!! Such a great time chatting with you both
Here’s a weird one, but anyone here interested in doing the play-by-play commentary for the Stockade FC ️ livestream on Saturday? (sadly, neither of our regular play-by-play announcers are available). Sat 6-8pm in Poughkeepsie. Men’s semi-pro soccer.
^^ I would not be entirely surprised if this was someone’s “dream come true” so figured I’d at least ask here.
My daughter’s soccer coach is a fanatic of the game, and writes long and eloquent emails about it. No idea if this would be a good fit but he’s got the knowledge ! Joe Santella: [email protected]
will do!
Hey, I see in the New York Times today! https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/24/dining/instagram-cookware.html
I've been in the market for good cookware -- hit me with any good recs!
Griswold cast iron, Le Creuset or Staub enameled cast iron, or All-Clad if you’re partial to stainless! All of them will set you back a little bit once, but you’ll never have to replace them so I see it as frugality Homegoods also has All-Clad and Staub sometimes for cheaper if you keep an eye out.
Thank you !!
(fun to see you here!) - we have an All Clad set we got many years ago on sale, but I primarily use my cast iron for most everything.
We got a set from Smithey — it’s made in Charleston, is quite pricey, but with proper care it is amazing. Cooking with cast iron and stainless are very different, so it also depends on your cooking style and preferences.
!! back at you and thank you for the req.
is there anything this Slack group can’t do?!
, it has yet to make me any money!?!?
You must be in the wrong channels then
Hey, I got a DM from someone the other day who said they hired someone through this group!
lol @dens good timing
(ugh nothing worse that a GIF that doesn’t GIF!)
show me the ways!
I have been loving my Smithey’s since retiring the Caraways lol. My husband is a chef and he approves too ;)
great to know! I'm checking them out as we speak...
Hey to all! I am a Dutch FashionTech Designer living in Beacon, NY >> I make wearable robotics (for 22+ years now!) - Jason invited me to join the Slack channel. Let me know who else is in the Beacon area

Hi Anouk! I’m in Beacon too—I think we may have met briefly in the park on Saturday…
Hey !! Oh cool!! Saturday - at the Polhill Park?
I am also in Beacon, and it's so inspiring to be surrounded by such a diverse group of creatives
SICK!
So cool! Welcome to the community!
Thanks is every here from Hudson Valley area? So cool! Might drop some more robotics / hardware lovers into this Slack if that's ok, so we are all connected.
Welcome ! I’ve lived in Beacon for 18 years (direct from Bushwick, Brooklyn way before the mass exodus!) and own the region’s first coworking space, Beahive (now on Eliza St, across from Beacon Coffee Co and Paul Brady Wine).
- also looking for people that do bouldering / climbing, to potentially go to Gravity Vault in Poughkeepsie to maybe make a group thing! (or Gunks)
There is also a maker group in Beacon, NY called MakerDale let me know if someone wants the link to the Discord channel, we meet once a month at Lightsome Studios in Newburgh (next meet is June 27 06:30-9pm) to work on projects / hang / nerd out until we find a space in Beacon properly!...
https://makerdale.com/ https://www.instagram.com/makerdale.hv/
DISCORD server https://discord.gg/avq9tuGt
Joined the Discord! My wife and I just bought an empty Sprinter and we're building out a van, trying to copy this layout
Oooh that is neat! #vanlife are you guys going to tour it to anywhere specific after it's done, or just for fun?...
Would be cool to go all the way down to Patagonia. We do plan to live in it for a while. I work remote so we're going to get Starlink on the roof
That is super awesome. Sounds like a cool project!
Does anyone in this group do marketing support for small brands/thought leaders? I am starting to realize that I don’t have the capacity to do everything myself and need to uplevel. My email is [email protected] if anyone wants to connect that way. this will be very part-time and mainly focused on my group offerings such as planning out courses and retreats
Hey, Amanda! Just emailed you.
Hi all! The folks at Sustainable Hudson valley suggested I join this group- thanks Joanne! I've been a freelance lighting tech in film and video industry for a billion years. I've wanted to try something new for a long time and recently decided to open a local art/craft supply thrift store ( like Retake/Remake in Peekskill, https://www.retake-remake.org) combining my love for creative materials and a strong desire to keep goods out of the landfill. All donated, used or nearly new items, will be sold at well below market value in the hopes of getting materials into the hands of anyone with a creative itch or anyone who may not have the wallet to support it. I'm a big believer in circular economy having co-hosted clothing and art supply swaps for over 10 years now. I'm in the early information gathering stage as I've never run a business before so any advice and suggestions are welcome! I'll be doing a few pop-ups in the beacon/wappingers falls area in the coming months so if you have art supplies you might want to get rid of, I'd be happy to take them off your hands. I'm also currently looking for space to rent- think church basement, old warehouse, abandoned garage. Maybe you know of something? Thanks for reading and hope I get to meet some of you ( that I don't already know!) in the near future.
Welcome Margot! I am in Beacon if you ever want to hang. And great that you are doing the thrift store, might have a few things for you!
Hi Margot! We met at Fareground a long while back. Love this idea, and I probably have a handful of things to donate.
awesome! I'll reach out to you both by the end of the week. thanks so much!
Yayy, glad you made it here!
Retake remake is one of my favorite places and I'm thrilled that there will be more places for folks to benefit from!! Best of luck!
I LOVE MARGOT!
thanks Kate and Tara!! hoping it all falls in place soon!
Hey all! I have found a home! It's small but it's a perfect place to start. I'll be taking over the smaller room at Compass Arts in the Beacon Music Factory building at 211 Fishkill Ave in Beacon! No website yet but I'm on instagram @secondwavesupplies. If you have creative use materials sitting around collecting dust, I'd be happy to pick them up before October, of you can drop off once the doors are open( early October with an official date for opening coming soon). I'm not great at checking in here so email or IG messaging works best. [email protected]. Thanks and looking forward to meeting you all!
Quick link to insta: https://www.instagram.com/secondwavesupplies
Reminder to everyone that the second ConnectHV/Barnfox meetup is next Wednesday at 7pm! RSVP to reserve your spot — we've got almost as many people signed up for this one as for the first one

Great event last night, & !
Seconded! nailed it and is always an amazing host!
Indeed! Another great evening, thanks , and nice to meet you ;)
Thank you all again for coming!
Does anyone have recommendations of easy places to film content and or to help with filming? I’m not talking about anything fancy, but I really struggle doing it myself in terms of lighting and just making it not look like crap.
What kind of content? If it’s related to your podcast, I have a pre-lit podcast studio in Kingston. Have also done small interview and product shoots there.
Mainly thinking just instagram but I’ll keep that in mind! Tricky thing is my cohost lives in Manhattan so i usually go to her to film.
Yeah that’s tricky if you both need to be love in the same room. I remote connect a lot of folks together too so that’s an option.
Amanda where are you located?
I’m in Shawangunk (near Gardiner).
I'm in Plattekill. If you would like to chat about how to make filming social content easier, even on the go, I may have some ideas for you.
This Hudson Studio in Wappingers Falls, NY
Hello, does anyone know of any models/modeling agencies in the HV area. I was looking for one for an upcoming shoot. Let me know thanks
Hi ! I have worked with these three agencies for some Styled Shoots I have planned in the area:
If you dive into some of the local Styled Shoot FB pages for NY - you can usually do a post in there and models will make themselves known in there as well!
Thank you so much Marina!
Not a problem!!
Hey, friends! Anyone in or near Gardiner?
I’m looking for [cool + smart] people to join the Board at GAB, (gabny.com) — we're looking for Board Members, Event Committee Members, and Junior Board Members as well. Do you know anyone who might be interested / is keen to volunteer? We’re a small organization supporting business owners by hosting events, offering marketing services, and making strategic connections.
I’d love to connect with anyone in this group who might be interested in networking and getting in the mix over in Gardiner!
So cool. Do you need to live in or near Gardiner to join the board?
Also, side question... do you need to be in Gardiner to be listed as a business? Saw a business in New Paltz.
you technically do not need to live near us to be part of the team but we’d love to connect with anyone who frequents, maybe hangs out here or has family and friends here, too!
That’s right, you can simply do business or have clients in Gardiner — a good chunk of our members live and do business in neighboring towns like new paltz
Hey there, I’m looking for recommendations for a software development company. We are a small Ed tech company (it’s assistive tech for disabled children). We are looking to build a cross platform version of our app. Preferably would like to work with an org specifically with experience with Ed tech software development. Thank you!
Awesome thanks Jordan! can you send me an email and we can set up some time to chat? [email protected]
oh wow, happy to get involved in this small thread - we definitely can coordinate our efforts in EdTeh / assistive tech / software dev
I wonder if knows of anyone — he has EdTech experience
Thanks for tagging me ! I would be happy to find a time to chat with you learn about your project and make recommendations based on your scope and budget. I'm a full-time senior software engineer and have run a non-profit where we train engineers and designers and create paid opportunities working on sustainability and social impact projects. We recently spun out a small agency that can support projects that don't fit neatly into our career development programs and require more senior contributors. We also have connections with other dev agencies and independent developers that might be a good fit for your project.
look up Merakite! They are an all women software development company and are truly incredible! I just worked with them to develop a custom tech platform - highly recommend!
Amazing thank you!
I've got a design job I need done - a downloadable PDF resource. I've got all the content but no design skills whatsoever. Before I source it on Fiverr, is there anyone here who does that kind of work? Feel free to DM me or [email protected]
Step #1- shoot for a designer If not…
Step #2- Canva CAN actually be a great DIY app to get things in order like internal documents and content and things…
Step #NEVER- Using Fiverrrrr or 99Designs. Upwork would be a better resource for real humans not banging out generic work, tho you have to be careful with that too
Have you tried Canva?
I’ve heard that’s a good tool to produce that kind of stuff
Hi Jennifer, I’d love to help if you’re still in need!
please try to hire a designer before using Canva So many talented humans out there that are eager for work! Help someone pay rent lol
If for some reason James doesn’t work out, I’m available.
I'm also happy to help!
I agree with Craig on step 1 and 2. Canva is a great tool!
Also just being silly with that list. But all seriousness, whatever programs help get layout jobs done (like Canva…esp when good branding is already established) can be great tools. Just hard to trust the Fiverr’s of the world with how they operate, and how people tend to be shady on there in order to make quick $. Showing other designers’ work as their own to attract people, etc. Even I have multiple impersonators claiming my work is theirs on Fiverr and even Upwork sadly.

If anyone you know is hiring for any content needs, let me know!! Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn as well. I'm really looking forward to being involved with this community
