Stony Hudson 7:46 PM

Hi Everyone, I just joined the group and wanted to say hi.

I'm based in Accord, and am the Founder of Oona Wine, a premium canned wine company I started after my wife got pregnant, and I couldn't find a single serve wine offering I wanted to drink again and again.

We are brand new to market (mostly DTC) but wow the HV has been supportive, including: -Some of our first accounts are in our own backyard, including The Maker Hotel and Bar Bene in Hudson, Skate Time and Starlite Motel in Accord, and very soon Tubby's in Kingston. We're also MoonBurger's official wine at their new Williamsburg location. -All our DTC orders ship with a free food pairing, and our savory Barbera Rosé ships with BjornQorn's Earth (truffle) flavored popcorn. -Our first charity collab is with the James Beard Foundation's annual benefit @ Chef Einat Admony's (fab event; tix still available for the gourmands out there)

So really, just glad to be in this group, and connect with y'all. If you own a restaurant/bar/retailer/event venue and are interested in trying our wines, I'd love nothing more, and of course, if anyone is ever in need of product, we're happy to support local causes/charity events with excellent wine - don't hesitate to reach out and I'll see what we can do

And h/t to for telling me about this group

E
Enchanted Cornell 3:22 PM

If we order wine, can we pick up in Accord?

S
Stony Hudson 3:23 PM

even better, it will come right to you (thanks to UPS)!

E
Enchanted Cornell 3:24 PM

I’m in Kerhonkson, always fun to pickup, but good to have it drop-ship from CM.

P
Peaceful Ashokan 4:59 PM

S

T

S
Stony Hudson 3:11 PM

not yet. doesn't make sense at our current dtc scale due to higher costs for alc reg component (which necessitates shopify plus). but can't wait to get there!

S

Can someone recommend a coffee shop I can work out of for several hours Dutchess or ulster?

P
Peaceful Ashokan 7:57 PM

Kingston Social is a new coffee shop-art space-boutique. They are a woman-owned business and have crafted a really special space that just opened recently with beautiful design. They have about 3-4 tables and some window seating as well.

M

R
Rolling Wittenberg 11:04 PM

could you start this as a thread and add this crew? Otherwise I can take it off slack

S
Stony Awosting 5:50 PM

i've gone to two of our meetups so far (barnfox and this week at senate garage) and both times i walked into the room full of people and got extremely anxious and left. social anxiety is kinda new for me, i'm often very social and gregarious, but sometimes it hits me hard. i'm wondering if there's a way to add just a little more structure to the meetups to throw a life-line to the wallflowers. i remember begrudging meet-ups in the before-times for being too jam packed with presentations when the "meet your neighbor" portion was often the most interesting moment, so there's certainly an art to the balance.

S
Stony Esopus 1:27 PM

I love your idea. To make it easier we could do it by numbers? Put numbers in a basket and when we check in we get a number and have to find the person with that same number?

S
Scenic Taconic 5:56 PM

I was at a networking event once where all participants were given the name of someone they had to find during the evening (the organizer paired these people up based on his knowledge of everyone’s interests/areas). It totally gamified the night and made it a fun quest. Since everyone’s looking for someone it’s a brilliant way of making new connections, and finding out who knows who. Certainly a lot of work for the organizer, but maybe something to consider ?

W
Wild Hudson 5:57 PM

Hey Tyler, this is great feedback, thanks for sharing this. (I saw you walk in on Wednesday and was going to head over, and then I lost track of where you were — we should grab lunch or coffee or something sometime and catch up!)

I know everyone's experience is different, but for me, COVID put my social anxiety into overdrive... it still doesn't feel quite "normal" to be in a large group setting. So I feel that, if perhaps in a different way.

A few people have brought this up to me, so I know you're not alone here. Let's start thinking of ways we can make these meetups more inclusive for everyone, wherever they fall on the gregariousness spectrum that night. (, I love the gamification idea!)

S
Stony Awosting 6:07 PM

yes! i will hit you up for lunch. covid was certainly a huge factor in teaching me how to be anxious around other people the role-playing nerd in me is very into the social quest idea, too.

P
Peaceful Ashokan 6:12 PM

One idea - at some point during a meet up, we could label some parts of the room or tables based on areas of interest so folks could more easily navigate the space and feel more comfortable introducing themselves to strangers on the assumption that they might have some common interests... eg have signs at some tables or area of the room such as "film and TV" "tech" "civic engagement" "let's not talk about work" "new arrivals to the hudson valley"

P
Peaceful Ashokan 6:13 PM

counterargument to that idea: it promotes silos based on industry but if you add some fun random topics like "best food and drink in the area" "gardening" "new arrivals" then it's less work focused and more life inclusive.

S
Stony Awosting 7:57 PM

For the Many had something called "speed friending" which might be fun but then again maybe not ideal for social anxiety. I will keep thinking!

W
Wooded Taconic 8:12 PM

Tyler, I’ll be sure to find you at the next one and say hello.

P
Peaceful Wallkill 8:22 PM

Im in for a smaller group setting like this too. Bdubs anyone? are boneless wings just nuggets?

W
Wooded Taconic 8:25 PM

Yes

W
Wooded Esopus 7:51 PM

Feel ya Tyler. While I’m fairly extroverted, 100-200 people squashed into the Poughkeepsie space is a lot of people . Hope to be able to attend more in the future either way and meet some new folks.

P
Peaceful Ashokan 6:30 PM

[Channel idea: ] Anyone interested in a Slack side channel for "buy/sell/marketplace" where we could share things like furniture, etc that we are re-selling or looking to buy? Obviously things like Facebook Marketplace, Offer Up, Craigslist etc do this at scale but a side-channel in Slack could be a more targeted audience to repost stuff for this community. Would imagine many of us have a special eye for design and with new folks moving in/around the region, doing home renovations and building from scratch, maybe others prefer to buy nicely used stuff from other creatives here? Feels a little different than or so I thought I'd first gauge interest. Vote: or

Done!

Good Morning! My name is Naomi and I'm happy to be joining this community of HV folks! I've lived in Newburgh for 25 years and really appreciate living by the Hudson River and the people who make up this diverse and beautiful community. I’ve always felt a deep desire to help others and make the world a better place. This overarching purpose has led me on quite an interesting life journey encompassing a diversity of ‘jobs’ all of which had the common thread of making a positive impact on the world around me. This true north led to my love for coaching and providing organization development services for purpose driven people and organizations. I have a strengths based approach in my work; focusing on optimizing people’s talents. As a coach and consultant, I serve as a partner for individuals and teams to help them recognize their natural patterns of excellence, gain insight, clarify next steps. and take action to achieve desired outcomes. I look forward to connecting in meaningful ways with folks and adding value in whatever way I can. Let me know if you'd like to talk!

Hi Everyone!

I was referred to Connect HV by I just started Kennedy Design Solutions a company specializing in home and commercial design services in the Hudson Valley and Westchester county area. We offer Interior design and decor, Architectural consultations, as built surveys, Architectural Visualizations and more!

I am a 26 year old architectural designer working towards licensure and teaching as a college professor at my graduating university teaching Architecture and Design to 3rd year students.

My goal is to get in business for myself and continue my passion for design. If you are looking to upgrade your home inside or out and want to see what it might look like before you spring for the renovation or just like to plan things out, upgrade your network or smart home set up, or even just get a second opinion on an ongoing design project, whether it’s product design, graphic design, architectural design, landscape and patio design, I’m here and happy to help.

There is no such thing as a design problem, only design solutions. Excited to attend these events and get to know you all! Thanks for your time and Happy Tuesday!

Hi everyone!

I had the pleasure of attending last week’s event at CoWork Kingston, where I got to meet some of you (thanks for being so welcoming , , , , and , among others!) I’ve been meaning to introduce myself ever since.

My name’s Craig, and I moved to Kingston in January after 4.5 years in Brooklyn (a common trajectory). To paraphrase what Jordan said in his presentation last Wednesday, like many of you, I’m very much in the Hudson Valley on purpose.

I fell in love with the Hudson Valley’s creativity, energy, and history, and I try to support the people and businesses that aim to make it the best version of itself and celebrate its unique charms rather than trying to turn it into a version of somewhere else.

Most recently, I worked as a content director for a metaverse-focused start-up, overseeing a team of creatives producing blog posts, newsletters, video, audio, social media posts, press releases, and any other content the business needed.

Before that, I worked as a technology news editor and reviewer for nearly a decade, focusing on smart home gear, fitness tech, fintech services, and transportation. My superpowers are slaying typos, making stories sing, distilling complex topics for diverse audiences, and helping other writers produce their best work.

I’m excited to connect with other Hudson Valley creatives, and I’m on the lookout for editing or content roles, full-time or freelance. If you’re read all this way, thank you, and please say hi at the next meet-up if I don’t do it first!

W
Wild Hudson 12:16 PM

Good morning! I never made an official intro here, so here it goes...

My name is Bonnie, and I moved to the Hudson Valley from Queens in 2019. Some of you may have met me at one of the meetups.

I've been a recruiter and career advisor (I worked both in big corporate, tech companies, staffing agencies, and at an art school) for the past 20 years specialized in the creative realm, including the many flavors (and ever-evolving) world of design. I've also worked in desktop publishing (talk about the wayback machine), marketing, and sales.

After a recent layoff, I'm reframing what the next chapter looks like for me as an interdisciplinary creative, and it's twofold:

I'm really looking to establish connections with folks where I can work on both. I'd love to help career voyagers at all ages and stages of their journey build their roadmap and uncover untapped skills, while also teaching the nerdy/crafty stuff.

I'm also looking for opportunities where I can take my unique skillset and bring it to an organization or company that is values-driven, that does meaningful, impactful work, and that is local and community based. After so many years of working "big corporate" this has become incredibly important to me, and I feel driven by a sense of giving back these days.

Thanks so much! This is such an incredible community and I am so happy to be here!

Hi folks! I’m new to the HV slack and want to introduce myself!

I’m Kayiu My husband and I moved from Brooklyn to Pleasant Valley about 3 years ago. I’m a UX/Product Designer at Adobe (trained graphic designer way back when) My husband is an oil painter, artist, illustrator, woodworker (kinda jack of all trades) and we’re both creative people and like tinkering in all kinds of projects!

I’m currently on maternity leave and have a 3mo old at home! Share your parenting tips in the HV too!

I have to yet join the in-person meetup that puts together but excited to connect with some folks on here digitally!

Outside of work, I’m also interested in making friends and getting to know other creative folks! Don’t be shy to say hello!

Ok random question time – Can anyone recommend any great dog kennels in the Hudson Valley that you've used? We're looking for a kennel with space for dogs to run around as our Vizsla will go absolutely bonkers if she's in a cage for a whole week.

E
Enchanted Overlook 4:24 PM

We’ve used the Art of Dogs for boarding/training, and have been recommended Hudson Valley Dog Farm, but haven’t used them.

T

We usually use Rover to find boarding in a sitters home but we've also used Wonder Dog in Hudson. Their kennels are a good size and each have a small individual enclosure space outside. They also have an enclosed 2 acre area for the dogs to run around

Hi all. I’m new here - just learned about the group from Beahive. My wife and I live in Fishkill. We moved up to the area from Brooklyn about 3.5 years ago after my wife got a job at Storm King (she’s now at ProPublica). I work in Newburgh for Toxic-Free Future, a national environmental health advocacy organization, where I run a national campaign holding retailers accountable for selling products with toxic chemicals like phthalates and PFAS. Locally, I’m involved in the Stewart Airport Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) engaged in the investigation and cleanup of PFAS contamination in Newburgh at the Air National Guard base. Anyways hoping to attend the upcoming event at Beahive. Hi!

Hello everyone! It was great to meet a few of you at the recent Kingston meetup. I grew up outside Albany and after moving 'downstate' for college, I knew I wanted to build a life in this area, but have bounced around a bit since 2020 and hope to build more of a community now that my husband and I are planting roots in Highland.

I am a self-taught graphic designer with a theater degree, using my directing background to bring a unique storytelling perspective to my brand identity studio, Callback Design. (Currently booking September and October projects if you're looking for a refresh for your business - callbackdesign.com) I also work part time as the in-house designer for Stella Adler Studio in Manhattan, recently completing a large visual identity overhaul for the organization and website update due to launch soon.

It would especially be great to connect with web designers and developers, copywriters, social media managers, and other marketing specialists and creatives to see if we can collaborate or refer business to each other!

Does anyone on here do “aesthetic” content creation and live near enough to Shawangunk (20 min from New Paltz) to want to work with me in person regularly?

I’m good at lots of things but creating pretty videos is not one of them. I would like to do monthly / bi-weekly shoots at my home or near me at locations where I actually go.

Feels cringe to ask but I’m launching a new concept in 2025 and it will require growing my reach.

Please email me directly [email protected] if this is your wheelhouse or you have a good LOCAL rep.

I do not need help with ideas or copywriting. I have that handled. It’s the aesthetic and filming piece where I fail

Hey everyone!

I am looking for a room to sublet in NYC starting in October (at the earliest) for the unforeseeable future but am very flexible! I’ll mostly be there for work during the week (Tuesday-Thursday), and am really just needing a clean space with a bed, a window, and shower! Pet friendly is a plus, but not a requirement. Ideally there is a subway close by that goes directly to Union Square.

About me: I’m a performer, UX designer, and floral designer, currently in Beacon. I love plants, have a sweet English crème golden retriever named Lily, and love hiking and dancing. I’m super clean and respectful, and being a Taurus , home is where the heart is! Aka I bring love to any space I inhabit.

I like the counties more than the cities and this is probably very picky of me but I’d get rid of the period at the very end. I don’t think it needs it. It kinda stands out too much. Would there be something on the back? any social handles/promo?

W
Wild Hudson 2:39 PM

I agree, the counties feels more balanced. (And yes, 100% agree about dropping the period... I was trying to capture the vibe of the original "John&Paul&George&Ringo" shirt that used a period but I don't think it works as well haha.)

Then the question becomes: which counties to include? There are a lot of competing definitions of "The Hudson Valley" out there

M
Majestic Wallkill 2:47 PM

Yea it’s tricky! That’s also why I like counties more because there’re more cities/towns! I like the ones you already have personally! It feels right to me but again, there’s different opinions out there for sure!

hi Tyler, thanks. We’re looking to create updated video solutions to replace, improve or just upgrade our perennial video assets. Thanks to have a look at these 2 videos, and let me know if you’d like to think through how to make a ’24 model year version, so to speak. The first one is to entice our B2B customers, the 2nd is to make attractive our start-up to the investor community. I see a need to “modulize” these videos, allowing us to splice into them new components (clips), graphs, projections, and people, so that we can move faster and more agile than just annual updates, that become outdates in a matter of a few weeks or months. Thanks

Hello everyone, I’m Jana Kantor—great to meet you all!

Did you know Ulster County can cover the salary of a part-time employee for your business? It can, and it wants to.

The Ulster County Young Adult Employment Program places young adults in jobs and pays their salaries. While these roles have traditionally been in trade industries, the rise of remote creative work that aligns with young adult schedules now offers an opportunity to open career doors that might have otherwise stayed closed.

This program is ideal for businesses with 6-12 hours of consistent weekly work and a team or individual eager to mentor someone early in their career. To qualify, you must be an LLC with general liability insurance.

As a member of the Ulster County Workforce Development Board, I can answer questions and connect you with the decision-makers. Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you’d like to learn more, and please pass this along to anyone who may be interested.

Thank you!

Great places to do indoor photo shoots in the HV? I’m in Shawangunk/Gardiner so within an hour of there is great.

Looking for clean, earthy vibe.

The Local - a new music venue in Saugerties - has their beautiful space available for shoots and rentals. It’s in a renovated chapel in town. Very cool vibes.

The Falcon in Marlboro comes to mind, very cool vibes, there waterfall behind it should catch in some of the shots. There's a music museum downstairs. Happy to introduce you to one of the managers there if you'd like.

Hi all, I’m David Cortez - happy to meet you all! Eliza from HV Venture Hub invited me to this channel. I am currently building a new company that is a Data/SaaS for real estate investment. If you are into problem solving, engineering or anything AI would love to chat. We are always looking to meet engineers, UX/UI, GTM advisors and VC or angel investors. Prior to building Foretold, I launched The Leasing Experts which is a development marketing firm for new real estate developments in BX, Westchester and Fairfield.

Hello

I’m Anthony - I’m a product manager + designer living in Great Barrington by way of Brooklyn and Hudson. Hope it’s okay to include some spill over into Berkshire County (most people think we’re a part of New York anyway)!

I’ve spent the last 10+ years as head of product for an EdTech SaaS company, focused on building recruiting solutions for college and university administrators. Recently started working on a new idea with email-based AI agents. In my free time, I like to play and collect stringed instruments and records.

Happy to connect if you’re working in PM, design, SaaS, software engineering, education, or future of work!

Hi!

I'm Mike, a software developer / former academic philosopher based in Kingston. I currently work for Michigan State University as part of a team called Mesh Research. We make tools for open research and run a site called Knowledge (formerly Humanities) Commons.

I haven't made it out to a meetup yet but hope I can make it out soon! I'm working toward starting a company aimed at the intersection of academic research and public interest.

I'd love to meet anyone in the area doing web development, building cool new things, working with AI, or anything like that!

S
Scenic Wittenberg 1:00 PM

hello ALL, I’m an experienced start-up entrepreneur, having handled, managed, driven, and run nearly every aspect of a start-up, EXCEPT, the actual coding part, as I’m a non-technical founder, here at iPlayMe2. I’m interested in working up to half-time for start-ups / scale-ups interested in brining on-board some experienced talent. Thanks to DM me if you have a specific need or area to discuss having me tackle it a.s.a.p. Both short-term and longer-term assignments are do-able. Regards, Paul Stratta ([email protected])

Hi all I'm Nick, a DevSecFinOps technologist who recently exited the corporate life and am working to get a technology consultancy off the ground. Before my most recent NY based employer was sold (sans employees ) I was responsible for building their FinOps practice from the ground up. I managed to save them 10% in the first 3 months through labelling strategy implementation and evaluation of their most impactful committed use discounts across cloud providers. We were on track to implement enterprise wide finops practices and standards projected to save up to 35% on 2024 spend. Sadly, we didn't get to move forward when the company was sold. I'm back where I belong in beautiful Orange County and looking to build my network and grow a business.

What is Slack?

Slack is a chat platform, similar to Discord or Microsoft Teams or old-school IRC. It's meant to be used by businesses for team communication, but we're using it as a community platform. We picked Slack by popular request and it's worked out pretty well so far.

Why should I join?

Over 900 local creatives and professionals are in the group, connecting with each other and sharing opportunities. People are finding work, hiring locally, sharing resources, launching new projects, and generally being a community that's authentic and human rather than the opposite.

What's the difference between the Slack and the directory?

The directory allows you to showcase your work and find local creatives and professionals. The Slack is a chat platform for the community with active conversation happening all the time. They complement each other, and both are useful!

What's the vibe?

Conversation in the Slack is casual and human. There are lots of people introducing themselves, asking for recommendations, hiring people and sharing that they're ready to be hired, and announcing new events or projects. (And it's totally fine to just lurk, too!)

Get plugged in to the Hudson Valley's most vibrant conversation.

Join 900+ fellow creatives, technologists, professionals, entrepreneurs, and small businesses in our vibrant Slack community.
