Hi all! I'm leading a workshop next Thursday, April 11 at SUNY New Paltz Design Week (free, open to the public) in which participants will build and deploy a portfolio website. No coding experience required - I've been working on building a full-featured starter repo for this workshop that combines static-site generator Astro with a CMS (Keystatic) for visual editing. At the end of the workshop, you'll have a site live on the internet (deployed for free on GitHub Pages or Netlify.) While the workshop content is focused on ease of use for non-technical folks, it's also a really cool platform for people who do have web development experience, and it's designed to be easy to extend and customize with HTML/CSS and even React-style JSX components (which get rendered down to static HTML in the build process). I'm super excited about this, and I hope to see some of you there! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/look-ma-no-code-tickets-868493576667

also there are lots of other cool events happening as part of New Paltz Design Week, and all are free & open to the public! https://www.newpaltz.edu/designweek/

Join us this Friday in Newburgh, NY for an elevated evening of Stoner Speed Dating and Friending, the perfect setting for canna enthusiasts to meet and vibe with fellow herb lovers. This event invites you to spark up conversations and connections with others who share your passion for plant medicine, whether you're seeking new friends or potential romantic flames.

The night kicks off with social activities designed around shared interests and the canna lifestyle, setting the stage for easy-going interactions and personal connections. As we flow into the evening, we transition into the speed dating (and friending) segment, allowing you to match with others as friends, flirts, or both, based on your vibes.

AIGA UPSTNY's 2024 Emerging Designers' Portfolio Review is next Weds, April 17 in Troy

The review is open to local art, design, and communication professionals and educators interested in helping our local emerging designers prepare themselves for their professional careers. We welcome a wide range of reviewers from seasoned professionals to those who have successfully landed their first design positions. Why not take a few hours and give back to our local creative community? #payitforward

The review is a chance for emerging designers (students, recent graduates, career switchers, bootcamp graduates, anyone early in their design career) to practice their interviewing skills and get valuable feedback from local professionals about their design work and resume in a no-risk, non-competitive environment geared at preparing them for the professional portfolio presentation process. Participants also have the opportunity to network and share their work with each other.

Join Kate Birmingham and Stacy Ripo for this 1 hour offering, where you will bliss out to the healing sounds of Himalayan Singing Bowls while doing restorative sequences.

Himalayan Singing bowls are an ancient healing modality known for their rich tones and vibrations. Studies have shown that sound bowls promote deep feelings of relaxation and reduce blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate. The bowls that will be used during this workshop are healing-grade, hand-hammered bowls from Nepal.

Restorative yoga can be used to help heal because of its positive effects on the nervous system. Typically, sequences consist of five or six poses. Combined with deep breathing and stillness, it provides an opportunity to feel and tolerate every sensation.

Recommended donation $30 or give what you can.

Hi Everyone ~ Good to be here and see some familiar faces! I'm Eric De Feo (Hudson, NY) and have been running the Hudson Community Incubator since 2020 - we serve startups up and down the Hudson River Valley. My background has been launching, consulting, and investing in startups for the last decade. At the incubator, I work with Main St. businesses on strategy and help them position themselves for fundraising if that's the route they want to go. We're working on a Fall 2024 accelerator, so stay tuned. We have portal you can join as well. Our physical offices are in Catskill, out of our garment factory/fashion accelerator, Made X Hudson, that we launched and host events out of. We're now on the Board of the NY Fashion Innovation Center with FIT and RPI, which will be giving out grants to sustainable fashion businesses within the year, so reach out if that is your category. You can always book time with me here.

Anyone at the Stockade match tonight?

What is Slack?

Slack is a chat platform, similar to Discord or Microsoft Teams or old-school IRC. It's meant to be used by businesses for team communication, but we're using it as a community platform. We picked Slack by popular request and it's worked out pretty well so far.

Why should I join?

Over 900 local creatives and professionals are in the group, connecting with each other and sharing opportunities. People are finding work, hiring locally, sharing resources, launching new projects, and generally being a community that's authentic and human rather than the opposite.

What's the difference between the Slack and the directory?

The directory allows you to showcase your work and find local creatives and professionals. The Slack is a chat platform for the community with active conversation happening all the time. They complement each other, and both are useful!

What's the vibe?

Conversation in the Slack is casual and human. There are lots of people introducing themselves, asking for recommendations, hiring people and sharing that they're ready to be hired, and announcing new events or projects. (And it's totally fine to just lurk, too!)

Get plugged in to the Hudson Valley's most vibrant conversation.

Join 900+ fellow creatives, technologists, professionals, entrepreneurs, and small businesses in our vibrant Slack community.
