Anyone going to be in the city this week for NYC TechWeek? Any events that aren’t to be missed?!?
Hey everyone !
Announcing a creative workshop that operates at the intersection of tarot and creative practice that I am facilitating in person in Hudson and online for those a little deeper down in the valley.
I am so excited to finally bring this to fruition after so many stops and starts.
Feel free to write me any questions you may have.
Truly,
Cat
Wednesdays ( in person Hudson, NY) 6-9pm KASURI (1 Warren, Hudson NY) July 19, 17, 24, 31 Aug 7, 14 Sundays (virtual, no recordings) 1-3pm July 14, 21, 28, Aug 4, 11, 18 Sliding Scale $111 - 222 6 weeks WHO THIS IS FOR: This workshop is for artists and makers who want to immerse in Tarot’s rich symbolism and learn practical techniques to infuse our creative practice with new energy. Whether you’re a seasoned Tarot reader or you’ve never picked up a deck, this workshop will guide you in harnessing the power of Tarot for inspiration and innovation in your everyday life. Our goal is to build a body of work in its beginning stages or already in process. This class is for people who are open and willing to interact and hold space by listening to others and within. They want to create a sense of order in their creative practice to balance out the labor of creative making in all its stages. They want freedom over situations that have placed emotional limitations on them in their past work. This work is all about balance, how to find it, and how to restore it. This work is for the fearless who are ready to synthesize wisdom, power, and initiation. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This workshop on the relationship between tarot and creative practice as a way to hone the muscles of intuition that are inherent in both practices. In this workshop, we'll discuss how we can bring that energy into our work, how to use tarot to springboard other phenomena in our art, and how different artistic mediums can inform and complicate one another. We will incorporate prompts, worksheets, readings, and videos from the works of Jessica Dore, Leonora Carrington, Michelle Tea, Alejandro Jodowrowsky and other seminal figures who have embraced tarot into their art practice on an online platform. Participants will learn new generative exercises, emphasize process over product, create brave learning spaces for participants, and find a balance between independent working time, discussion, and lecture. COURSE ACTIVITIES: WEEK ONE : Art & Ritual WEEK TWO: Intuition WEEK THREE: Process WEEK FOUR: Planning ( to be honest, process and planning are intertwined but everyone meets their starting point in their own way so these two will be happening simultaneously) WEEK FIVE & SIX We will have a final presentation of work in whatever stage is at and plan to either do an exhibition/publication online or in a real space so this time will be devoted to thinking through that. To register, please fill out this questionnaire : https://forms.gle/hyXnBozNt7LAPSTJ6 or write me at [email protected] Once I receive payment, you will receive a PDF of Major Arcana archetypes from the tarot to prepare for the first assignment and the Zoom link.
anyone from the (happy to see) soccer scene that seems to be ingrained in here headed to Catskills Round Top tournament this weekend...? https://www.greatnortherncatskills.com/events/43rd-annual-round-top-soccer-tournament-riedlbauers-resort
This looks so cool - I played many moons ago and would be interested in joining a team if any form near or around POK
I won't be, but I am still pumped that there's a growing soccer scene here! (I'm a Stockade loyalist, but I also think it's cool that the captain of the USMNT runs the team based in Newburgh, and came up through Wappingers schools)
Absolutely - love to see it! I played in the Cosmo League for 15 years w/ NYCroatia after college and still play a few times a week - a few former team members have played for Stockade over the years. Headed north w/ some Germans from the international school where my wife teaches - always a good time in the Catskills! Maybe an Connect HV pickup is in order...!

You know what still blows my mind? This Slack community has existed for less than 70 days and we've already had 2 (very well-attended!) official events, several unaffiliated get-togethers, events planned for the next 4 months, and almost 500 members. This does my Hudson Valley-loving heart good
It's amazing!!! The desire for community is so strong!! I started a ladies co-working group at our local coffee shop with a friend last year and it's become so special and supportive. Especially for folks working remotely that need for connection will always be present.
My HV heart is always dancing happily with yours!
Resharing this since it’s been awhile and it’s coming up in a couple days :

Saturday, July 13th is the Wurtsboro annual street fair, and I will be there along with 8 other muralists painting the town as part of the day's events! It's going to be such a fun event with lots of different things to check out (car show, live music, food, etc.)
As I mentioned in my intro in the General channel, a few months ago I joined the programming and marketing committees of the Rosendale Theatre, a non-profit, 200-seat, single-screen movie and performing arts theater, where I am the only programmer under the age of 50.
My goal from the outset has been to help them to expand their definition of "classic movie" by about 30 years, and demonstrate that if you cater to a younger demographic, they might actually show up.
I've got three things on the schedule for this month in primo timeslots:
Tomorrow, 7/6 at 7pm, we've got Mystery Science Theater 3000's Frank Conniff live in person for a screening of The Mads Are Back's 2021 riff of Manos: The Hands of Fate, with a pre-screening book signing, and post-screening Q&A. So far we have 50 tickets sold, and I'm really hoping to end up somewhere between 100 - 125. If this one goes well, future live riffs are very much an option. If you grew up watching MST3K, you should definitely come! https://tix.rosendaletheatre.org/madsmanos
Next Friday night and Saturday afternoon (7/12-13) we're celebrating the Ninja Turtles' 40th birthday with a costume party/screening of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990), and I'll probably end up cutting together a pre-show filled with 90s commercials and Ninja Turtle talk show clips. Everyone who comes in costume gets free popcorn. https://tix.rosendaletheatre.org/tmnt1990
Friday 7/19 at 7pm we've got a one off screening of The People's Joker, which I believe is technically the Hudson Valley premiere. I lined up an incredible guest to introduce it, NYT Bestselling author Josie Riesman, who also reviewed the film for Rolling Stone. As with the Ninja Turtles screening, anyone who comes in costume as their favorite DC character (or knockoff) gets free popcorn. https://tix.rosendaletheatre.org/thepeoplesjoker
Awesome!
My husband and I went to the Manos screening Saturday night and we fell in love with the theatre! So much so that we are looking at membership and I'm thinking of becoming a volunteer! Thank you so much for all that you do!
that's awesome! I'm thrilled it had such an impact on you. Volunteering is really fun, you basically do like 45 minutes of work and get to see whatever is playing for free.
Tomorrow evening at CoWork Kingston, i'm hosting a brainstorming session with to talk about Legado and how they're repositioning estate planning. Should be a super interesting session! https://www.meetup.com/hudson-valley-product-market-fit-group/events/301699138/
Really excited! We had a great event a few weeks ago and learned a ton. Looking forward to tomorrow and meeting more people in the community.
Happy Monday!
HV Sustainable Fashion Week is hosting a launch party and film screening in Kerhonkson on Thurs., 7/25, and are looking for green businesses to contribute to our Sustainable Living starter pack raffle prize!

Signed up / appreciate the reminder
Can't wait!!! Let's gooooo
Hey y'all, just a reminder that tomorrow night and Saturday afternoon we're screening the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie at Rosendale Theatre.
It will (hopefully) be preceded by a 30 minute preshow I cut together of 90s commercials, talk show appearances, and vhs clips. Jury is still out as to whether all those low rez clips will be up to snuff for projection.
Come in costume, get free popcorn! (The threshold for what constitutes a costume is low.)
I wanted to do one screening of each, but that would've meant paying a license fee for two movies instead of one, so I got pushback. If these go well though, it's definitely on the table.
Sounds amazing!
Any timeline to do TMNT 2?
Hi folks. I spend time working with RTA aka Rehabilitation Through the Arts, and am presently teaching Theatre at Woodbourne Correctional and will be teaching at Walkill Correctional in the fall. Today marks the release of a movie called Sing Sing, about inmates involved in the RTA theatre program at Sing Sing prison. This is not a documentary but a dramatization of the project and the process and I highly recommend checking it out of you are in the least but interested in the subject matter.
Awesome Phil! I would love to learn more about RTA. I am on the board of Ulster Literacy Association, which teaches creative writing and art therapy in Ulster County Jail.
Where is the film playing/streaming? I tried to search but couldn't find details.
If you go to the website singsingmovie.com it should give you more info, or so a search on “sing sing movie”
I know it’s in NYC at the Angelika Theatre on Houston, where I saw it. Not sure beyond that
Also, you Im sure you’re aware of the Bard College writing program in prisons?
Thanks for the info. I will check out the film if I make it down to the city soon.
I am aware of the Bard program, though we haven't collaborated with them to date.
I got tickets for Sing Sing at saugerties Orpheum on friday. With special guest consultant and co-producer Brent Buell. Looking forward to it! https://www.upstatefilms.org/sing-sing
Our next event is this Wednesday, but the event after that is on August 7 at the Senate Garage in Kingston, and we're already starting to plan for it.
We're going to have food & beverages from some local restaurants and breweries, but still have room for more. Which leads to my big question:
Are you, or anyone you know, a local food/drink vendor who's interested in contributing?
(If so, I'll include you in the marketing, and you'll have the heartfelt thanks and appreciation of myself and everyone who comes!)
Hey y'all, tonight is the Hudson Valley premiere of The People's Joker at the Rosendale Theatre. It's being introduced by NY Times bestselling author, Abraham Josephine Riesman, who reviewed the film for Rolling Stone.
It's the last screening I have booked for the month, and I'd love to go out with a bang.
Hope to see some of you there!

I’m considering doing a in-person event where I’ll do a lecture(1hr-ish) and a class (2 hr-ish)
It’d be either entry level of one of the following topics:
Phishing 101 and how to not fall for it
Digital footprints (OSINT) and how to find what info about you is exposed on the internet
Intro to Web Application Ethical Hacking and how to get started
Internet Hygiene and how to not end up in the next data breach
Or advanced topics:
Blackbox External penetration tests from start to finish
Web App Pen Tests from start to finish
Thick Client/software pen tests from start to finish
War Driving and how to setup and a WiFi/bluetooth/and more monitor
—
Any interest from this community in this or feel free to lmk if you have similar topics you’d be interested in
i'd be into this Intro to Web Application Ethical Hacking and how to get started i started the tutorials on hackerone.com but it was pretty overwhelming
Word. That would expect the attendees to have base knowledge or at least exposure to HTTP protocol/requests+responses, DNS/subdomains, HTML/CSS/JS/SQL.
I’d cover those topics very briefly as the meat is obviously the offensive side of things.
Do you know about those topics at all?
I could do an entry level focused one but wouldn’t have the time to get into much of the offensive side in this case.
What do you think
i'm a staff software engineer, but have mostly focused on mobile. so i know the basics, but esp when it comes to web protocols, i have blanks to fill in.
Word. Mobile pen tests is another type of engagement I do quite often as well.
Although it’s really like 40% specific to mobile and 60% carries over from web so always a path to take in the future.
You’re the ideal candidate tho, I’ll keep you in the loop with my plans moving forward
amazing, thanks
Also don’t hesitate to hmu about stuff you’re confused about if you ever try learning web pen again. I wouldn’t try to jump straight into bug bounty platforms like hacker one tho
yeah, exactly why a "how to get started" would be so helpful
I'd probably go, please include [email protected] if you end up doing this.

Free Webinar! ~~~ Master Morning Madness!
How your morning goes....so goes the rest of your day. If it's full of madness your day will be madness.
Rushing and stressing during the start of your morning will never set you up for long term success.
Ideal mornings are part tactics, part strategy and mental mindset. Do you have a strategy? Do you have a morning plan? Do you have the mindset to make it happen?
My mornings used to be a mess. I had finally had enough of running late and forgetting things. I decided to take control - make a plan. I wasn't going to let my maddening mornings be my downfall. I knew that if I could create a routine that I could stick to, my days would go more smoothly and if I incorporated easy mental fitness exercises, I'd be in a better mind frame to thrive during the day.
Join me on August 16th, where we will take a pause in your day to reflect on your current morning and set you on a path towards your ideal morning. The journey towards long term success starts here!

Hi folks! I hope it’s ok to post this here. I’m developing an online course in unconventional music and sound, ie outsider music, noise, avant-garde, sound art, experimental and the like. We’ll learn about those types of genres, historical and contemporary artists and I’ll give writing prompts that will help you on your artistic journey. Ultimately, I’m trying to build a community of folks who want to learn and push way out past the boundaries of their creativity.
There would be different pricing tiers, but the online course would be a one-time fee and you’d have it for life with all future updates included.
For now, I’m trying to see if there is any sort of interest for this type of thing before I start taking on various operational costs.
What do ya’ll think?
I would be interested in this. Difficult to determine the amount of time / $ I could devote to this, but I like the idea
I'll keep you posted!

Hi everyone! Pre-pandemic, I ran a social club where we tried out new skills called Renaissance Person that I launched in 2016. October 8th at 6:30, we’ll have a “make your own microscope” class (it pairs with your cell phone!) and a lesson microscopy. Come try something new with other curious folks.
